People’s Summit

Presentation of the outcome of the one-day workshop, tracking the implementation of the 2nd National Land Conference Resolutions

Date & Time: 30 November 2023, 14h30 to 18h00
Venue: Gateway Conference Centre, Hans-Dietrich Genscher Avenue, Khomasdal, Windhoek
Organiser: Council of Churches in Namibia (CCN) and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES)

The Namibian Government convened a 2nd National Land Conference over the period 1-5 October 2018 in Windhoek under the theme ‘Towards A Comprehensive and Sustainable Land Reform in Namibia’. The Conference adopted a total of 160 resolutions under 40 different thematic areas. The Government established a 30-member High Level Committee (HLC) chaired by the Prime Minister to oversee the implementation of the resolutions.

The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and Council of Churches in Namibia, under the auspices of the Civil Society Organisations Working Group on Land Reform (CSO-WGLR), embarked on a process to audit the implementation of the 2nd National Land Conference Resolutions.

The auditing will take place in two (2) distinction modes: a one-day workshop of Experts and a People’s Summit. The one-day seminar critically interrogated and tracked the progress of the 2nd National Land Conference Resolutions, which took place on Tuesday, 21 November 2023.

The Expert Round Table Review session has produced an Outcome Document, which will be presented, discussed, and endorsed by the People’s Summit.

The People’s Summit is part of such a process through which the masses seek to influence government land reform, redistribution policies and programs, and housing challenges the urban poor face.
